Reading Buddies

Every Friday we get to meet with our 3rd grade reading buddies from Mrs. Fox's class. Today they brought us a book to read and then they read to us a Library book from the library tub. Then we got to color an American Flag in honor of Constitution Day yesterday. We love our reading buddy time!

Go Bulldogs!!

Riverview was SO SUPER LUCKY to have the Ferris State Bulldog Women's Soccer Team play a game at the community fields across from our school yesterday. The students go to walk into the school through the bulldog first thing. Then we got to meet the players at a pep assembly later in the morning. Kindergarten students got to walk out onto the field with the team for the National Anthem and then we got to cheer on our Bulldogs while they won against Aquinas College 1-0. It was an amazing experience for all of them!

Library

We had our first Story Time with Mrs. Bucher on Monday! It's so much fun to introduce kindergarten to the library. We get to go in and listen to Mrs. Bucher read a wonderful story each week from her Dr. Seuss story chair and then we get to take a bin of books back to our room to share and read all week long.

Zoo Phonics

We started our Zoo Phonics program last week and the kiddos are LOVING it! It's so much fun to give letters a name and then to be moving so much while we do the actions that go along with each zoo friend is a blast.
Funny story, I was introducing Honey "H" Horse and I asked anyone if they knew what sound that zoo friend made. One little boy raised his hand and when I called on him he said "nehhhhhh". HA! lesson learned...be more specific. I was looking more for an "h" sound. :)

Art

My students could not wait to start on a painting project. We have been learning all about mixing colors and I read the story "Mix it Up" to them which was a HUGE hit! So with this project we experimented with water colors to try and create new colors.

Rainbow Names

I do this activity with my kinder kiddos the first week of school every year. I LOVE how they turn out! It's a fun way for them to become familiar with their name if they already aren't, and a great way to introduce the colors of the rainbow. Our classroom is the rainbow room and so these always look amazing hanging up all year round. It also gives them that feeling of ownership in our room when these names are hanging high for all to see all year round.

We Are Writers!

We launched Writer's Workshop in our class yesterday! It was so fun to hear the student's reactions when I told them we would be writing. "I can't write!" "I don't know words!". By the end of our first writing lesson they all gave me a big thumbs up when I asked them if they thought they were writers! Success!
I took a few pictures of our friends showing us what good writers look like. These pictures will go up on our Writer's Wall to remind us what good writers look like!
